Arne Jacobsen 'AJ' twelve piece flatware set. 1960s Stainless steel.

Manufactured by A. Michelsen, by appointment to The King of Denmark, since 1957. Each piece impressed with maker's mark. The set has (1) previous owner and was purchased 1967.

Period: circa 1967

Condition: Excellent original condition, minimal wear, well preserved.

A. Michelsen was a leading Danish jeweller founded in 1841 by Anton Michelsen in Copenhagen. It was responsible for executing all Danish orders. It was absorbed by Georg Jensen A/S in 1985.

Jacobsen originally designed this flatware for the SAS Royal Copenhagen Hotel in 1957. His Minimalist flatware was later featured in Stanley Kubrick's 1968 film "2001: A Space Odyssey". The A. Michelsen production is earlier and therefore more desirable than the later Georg Jensen version of this pattern.
