Westfield is a town in the western part of Chautauqua County, NY.   The population was 4,896 at the 2010 census. Westfield is also the name of a village within the town, containing 65% of the town's population.

This bank was originally chartered in 1884, and issued series of 1882 Brownbacks, 1902 Series Red seals, 1902 Blue seals in both the Dateback and Plainback varieties and finally both types of the 1929 series.   This denomination, the $5 note, was the only denomination issued for the 1929 series.    Oddly enough, there are more large size notes which survive by the census (48) as opposed to the small size notes (39.)   This note is new to the census and therefore makes it 40 known known notes. 

The signatories are Edward D Regan as cashier and F. W. Crandall as president.  This combination of officers only appears on the 1929 Type 1 notes as in 1933 there was a change of the cashier.   

Pricing:  We consider prices from about 2009 to present relevant.  Prices for the first decade of this century were in a heated and frenzied market, so those high(er) prices are NOT relevant.  Within the past three years there have been eight appearances of these notes.  With the past 6 appearances, all in grades from VG-8 to VF-20 the prices have varied from $109 to $260 in Fine-12(not third party graded) grade.  In fact, only one note of the 39 pieces has been third party graded and that a F-10(PCGS.)  More recently a F-15(PCGS) is presently offered elsewhere here on eBay for $299.   We feel a fair price for this VF(20) note is $265.
