Chokin is the ancient Japanese art of engraving copper and gilding it with precious gold and silver. The engravings were originally created to decorate the shrine, temple and the armament of the samurai warriors. Chokin art in Japan originates in decoration on Buddhist shrine in the 6th century. Afterwards, Chokin was applied to armory, such as armors, helmets, and swords. Gilded with gold and silver, the engravings were created to decorate the armament of the samurai warriors.
