Short Description of Corn Silk / Cornsilk (Zea Mays):
Corn consists of not just the kernels, which we are familiar with, but also the silky hair that have been used in traditional medicine for centuries.
Nutritionally, corn silk contains vitamins, carbohydrates, fiber, proteins, carbohydrates, minerals (Ca, K, Mg and Na salts, potassium), fixed and volatile oils, steroids such as sitosterol and stigmasterol, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, and flavonoids. 
These nutrients and compounds are what lend it its medicinal/health properties.
From 4.5 kg of fresh corn silk 1 kg of dry corn silk is obtained.

What does corn silk tea taste like?
Very mild and earthy. 

How to use/consume Dried Cornsilk?
Infusion: 
Boil 2 tbsp. dried corn silk with 1/2 liter of boiling water for 10 minutes. This dose is divided into three parts and drunk for one day.
Externally:
The same infusion is used. Can be used only externally with double the dosis!
Tea:
Boil water for some time. Put dried corn silk when the water starts boiling. Let it remain boiling for minutes. Then it turns to brown hued caramel like liquid.
Then strain and serve it cold or warm. Lemon juice could be added to enhance the flavor. The remaining tea could be kept in refrigerator for few days.
Tea 2:
Boil 1 tablespoon of corn silk (dried, chopped) in 1 cup of water. Once it is done, cover the pan and allow it to steep for 15 to 20 minutes. When it is cold enough to drink, you can add 1 teaspoon of raw honey if you desire. This sweetens the tea for those who prefer it that way. You can store the remaining tea in your refrigerator for 2 to 3 days.
Tincture:
Take a small jar and fill it about ¼ with dried chopped corn silk. Fill the rest of it with vodka or any other high proof alcohol. Cover the jar, let the two ingredients infuse for 4 to 6 weeks in a cool, dark place. Make sure that you shake it occasionally.
Strain and take about ¼ to ½ teaspoon a few times every day. You should reduce the dose for smaller children. You can mix a spoonful of honey to make it taste better, especially if you are giving it to children. You can store this corn silk tincture for over a year as it has a long shelf life.
For Pets:
Use Tea 2 recipe. Suggested dose of this tea is about ¼ cup per 20lbs of body weight 2 times a day.
