Maráthí is an Indo-European language spoken by the Maráthi people. It is the 14th most commonly spoken language in the world with, as of 2001, 72 million speakers. It is the third-largest language in India after Hindu and Telegu. J.T. Molesworth was an officer for the East India Company and a lexicographers of the Maráthí language. This dictionary began when Molesmorth, alongside Thomas Candy, found himself stationed at Solapur.
