This is a delicate, sweet piece that exemplifies the delicacy and gracefulness of design that marks classic Lefton. There is a chip on the inner edge of the box that is covered and not viisible when the lid is in place. Both pieces are otherwise in great condition, with all the highly sculpted raised flowers intact but one, which has a small chip, and all the rhinestones in place. The box is 3 ¼” in diameter. Backstamp: “Lefton China, Hand painted Reg. U.S. Pat. Off.” With the Lefton crown that dates them somewhere from 1953 to 1971

We are downsizing and I am sending my Lefton collection to good new homes, so check my other listings.

Here is a little of the surprising and inspiring history of Lefton China:

George Zoltan Lefton, a Hungarian immigrant who came to the United States in 1939, was the driving force behind Lefton China. Although he began his career in clothing and sportswear, his porcelain collecting interest led to the formation of the Lefton Company in 1940, headquartered in Chicago.

After the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Lefton helped his friend Nunome, a Japanese American, board up his business to avoid looting. When the war ended, Nunome introduced Lefton to Japanese ceramic manufacturers during the Japanese occupation. Impressed by the high quality of Japanese china, Lefton was one of the first American businessmen to work with these manufacturers.

All photos are of the actual item you will receive—please look at the photos closely as they are a large part of the item description. Most of what I sell is vintage, used, old, and by its nature the opposite of new. Old things most often show signs of age. I know I do. I try my best to describe these battle scars, but if you are uncertain, then ask. All items are listed "as is”. Please let me know if there is a problem with any item you purchase. I want you to be happy and love whatever you bought from me and will try my best to correct any issues promptly.
