In fair condition. Boards are moderately worn with scuffing, soiling and surface scratches. Title plate on front cover is toned and chipped. Hinges split with chipping at spine. Interior toned with moderate foxing, especially on copper plates. Free of known marginalia. Binding is fragile, but intact. Please see photos.
Benjamin West (1738 - 1820) was a British-American artist who painted famous historical scenes such as The Death of Nelson, the Treaty of Paris and Benjamin Franklin Drawing Electricity from the Sky.
No publication dated is given. All plates are signed as painted by B. West and engraved by H. Moses. Most are also signed by the draughtsman - H. Moses or H. Corbould. Each carries the publisher's imprint of Joseph Thomas.The short biographic note, 'Benjamin West', refers to West's death in 1820. Henry Moses had first published The Gallery of Pictures Painted By Benjamin West Esqr. in 1811.
