New CD,  Polish release

A hoarse voice from under the feet teases like a hangover; It's a Ford Mercury Model 56 with a cracked exhaust pipe, a muffler that punched something. It's the bouncer's scream as the bar closes, it's a voice from New Orleans.
It's Tom Waits!

Tom Waits is a cult figure: singer, poet, composer, instrumentalist, arranger, actor - born in the United States in 1949. Permanent Residence - Los Angeles, California.

Tom Waits is a symbol of the American tramp, a legend of the world underground, a lover of Bourbon and women, but also an eccentric way of being and cutting language.

Waits' music is a special sound space in which you can not only hear but also feel - smoke, dust, alcohol vapors.
It is music full of dirt, random noise, and yet appreciated by serious music critics. It is music in which rhythm and blues influences constantly mix with jazz with Weill's ballad, theater music, vaudeville music and sometimes even circus music.

Kazik Staszewski is a cult figure: singer, poet, composer, instrumentalist, arranger, actor - born in Poland in 1963.
Permanent address of residence - Warsaw, Poland.

Kazik Staszewski - is the most outstanding artist of the Polish rock scene, a bard of the young Polish intelligentsia.

Kazik arranged, rhythmic and enriched the unbridled, intimate and dark work of Waits. His arrangements gave Waits' ballads a more dynamic character, a more rock-like sound, saturated with instrumentalisation. To face the legend of Tom Waits would seem like a daunting task. However, Kazik Staszewski managed to do it.

The assessment of the clash of these two strong creative individuals - Tom Waits and Kazik Staszewski - was hailed by journalists and fans of both bards as a real musical event!

“The arrangements of all eighteen pieces played that evening have been very carefully and precisely prepared. They did not overturn the originals.

The wild, unbridled, ascetic in form and wandering songs by Waits were rather arranged (...)
Perhaps they lost the typical Waitsian psychedelia and "cacophony", but gained a more balladic character, new sounds, and sometimes even denser melodies (...)
“The biggest differences were, however, in the way Staszewski sings.
Waits gives the text "with withdrawal", its color is saturated with pub spine at four in the morning at the last turn, he feels a characteristic anxiety, apparent boredom, or tiredness full of resignation. Kazik, on the other hand, attacks every phrase and is heavily involved. Always on the attack. (Gazeta Wyborcza)

“It was obviously a different Waits. Instead of his characteristically hoarse voice, we heard Kazik's vibrating voice with varying intensity succumbing to the ballad discipline. " (Republic)

For the first time, Tom Waits gave permission for his songs to be translated.

Their selection is a review of the most famous works by Waits, for the first time officially and with the consent of the author translated into Polish.

Tom Waits and Kazik Staszewski
Two extraordinary personalities. Two very distant places on Earth. Two artists of different generations. Two incomparable poetics. Two separate music styles. Individual stage creations ...

So what do these artists have in common? - Independence.

Independence as a value superior to all other values. Independence as the meaning of life, the meaning of creativity. This extraordinary meeting resulted in an extraordinary album - a story about modern times, in which independence is constantly entangled in a network of tragic addictions.
