"Propylees"
an original woodcut by Roger Tourte

Roger Tourte (1903-1972) was a French painter who first visited Greece in the 1920s and settled there in the mid-1930s. A retrospective of his watercolor paintings was presented in Santorini recently, but I have not been able to locate many other examples of his woodcuts. This print was included in a portfolio of his woodcuts titled "Greece"; I have not found the date of production or any other existing copies of the work.

A beautiful little woodcut in three colors on thick paper, signed and titled by the artist in pencil. Slight bend along one side of the sheet, but the image is in great condition.

Sheet 10 x 13.5 inches
Image 4 x 6 inches
