HISTORY
The real story is that Mama Juana was invented as a branded herbal medicine in the 1950s by Jesus Rodriguez contrary to the mystical story of mamajuana being discovered by the Taino Indians prior to the days of Columbus. As the drink became more and more popular for its health benefits, the government under President Trujillo sought to arrest anyone who was selling Mama Juana without a certified medical license. In the 1970s, Rodriguez fled to the United States and relocated to Manhattan, New York.
Today natives gather most of the ingredients in the wild, each using their own blend of plants and herb species. Once mixed, it is traditionally considered a sweet stimulating & vitality liqueur. It is a popular item sold to the locals and tourists in bottled form and also made available for consumption at local restaurant, pubs and Resorts.
