BRIEF HISTORY OF THE GURKHA PANT
In short, Nepalese Gurkha soldiers were recruited by the British army after a display of great strength and skill during battle in 1814. Their army was 6 x smaller than the British, but they held out much longer than anticipated due to their stamina and knowledge of the terrain. The British were awed by the Gurkha's bravery and felt their own army would benefit from this calibre of soldier. They encouraged them to volunteer as soldiers for The East India Company.

UTILITY: British troops were not used to the heat and unfamiliar territories, and as a result their weight fluctuated. The adjustable belted waist allowed the trouser to be cinched and released as required whilst maintaining a smart military uniform.
