Some of the boards have noticeable scratch, all have marks. Seller sees some of the books have a ribbon, the ones seller saw were unattached.

Vol I has a 4 inch tear at the front end paper at the gutter, which affects the board, and then crease the rest of the way down, affects top board hinge slightly, does affect page binding.

The spine area of the books have the worst wear: Vol I bottom of spine 1/2 x 1 inch piece missing,  side split at top sides 1 and 4 inches, Vol II Top 3 /4 center tear and peeling, Vol III Top 2 inches tear each side and peeling, Vol IV Good condition, Vol V splitting down back edge of spine but not peeling, 2 inch top left corner front board scratch, Vol VI 3/4 length front edge splitting no peeling, top edge 3/4" paper missing, Vol VI Top edge back 3/4" tear and front 1/4 tear with peeling, VIII Top edge 1/4 x 1/2 inch paper missing, Vol IX Wear but no real damage, & Vol X front edge all the way down the spine splitting with peeling, will need repair otherwise the back will split and the paper will separate from the spine.

I have only described some of the wear and marks, particularly on the boards and the books in general.  There are other areas of wear and marks and scratch. Overall the pages are well bound but to make the outer boards last some repair will be needed on the spine of the boards to stop further damage and protect them.

The pages are well bound and generally clean. The illustrations are very nice and there is frontispiece.
