A Special Caution regarding trading computers with CPUs utilizing Hyper-threading being utterly misrepresented recently by some used computer vendors on Ebay who are marketing older and very inexpensive simple legacy multi-monitor office computer systems, and presenting these systems with utterly misleading hype in both Title and Descriptions as "trading computers" ... perhaps to catch a 'trader's premium' on their otherwise noncompetitive computer/server inventories...

It is not even a true 'Quad Core' system (a system actually requiring 4 true physical cores within one processor!).

Additional utterly misleading examples... a matching pair of $9.25 Xeon 5570 processors in a system IS NOT a '16 processors' system.' A single hexa core Xeon X5680 in a system IS NOT a 'twelve processors' system. A single $22 Xeon 5590 processor in a system IS NOT an '8 processor' system. WOULD YOU BE AWARE OF WHAT ELSE SUCH VENDORS MIGHT BE WILLING TO OVERSTATE AND EXAGGERATE IN ANY ONE OF THEIR SYSTEM'S ADVERTISEMENTS IN ORDER TO CAPTURE A TRADER'S PREMIUM? PROCESSORS ARE NOT CORES, AND CORES ARE NOT THREADS, AND THREADS ARE MOST CERTAINLY NOT PROCESSORS.

(Misleading and irrelevant 'multi-thousand MB' quotes of 'active memory or 'video memory' in a GPU COMPLEX lacking the DEDICATED MEMORY needed to support high volumes of streaming and compiling real-time market data across many simple office monitors throughout the course of the trading day without incurring significant financial market 'data drag' additionally, instrumentally and effectively undermine the active advanced professional financial position manager's and serious daytrader's potential skills and efforts!)

So, be careful of system providers and builders who would mis-leadingly hype relatively inexpensive and inconsequentially different CPU(s), and mis-represent any marginal differences and the number of actual processors and cores in the CPU Complex! And vendors that also hype slower 2TB HDD(s) as though they were any use to the trader with insufficient transfer rates regardless of RPM. Also be careful of vendors and builders who would fail to install adequate and the more costly higher DEDICATED MEMORY GPU COMPLEX components (and instead quote irrelevant and misleading 'active memory' or 'video memory' metrics).

LOOK FOR SYSTEMS WITH
(1) 4 OR 6 OR 8 TRUE PHYSICAL CORES IN EACH PROCESSOR (AND WITH HIGH MB CACHE ALSO)
(2) POWERFUL 1.5GB+ DEDICATED MEMORY GPU COMPLEXES,
(3) EXTRA FAST 6GB/SEC TRANSFER RATE SSD AND HDD (REGARDELESS OF HDD RPM OR CACHE)
(4) AND ASK THE VENDOR FOR THEIR SYSTEM'S GPU COMPLEX'S ACTUAL MICROSOFT WINDOWS EXPERIENCE INDEX (WEI) "GRAPHICS" COMPONENT AND "GAMING GRAPHICS" COMPONENT (NOT JUST PROCESSOR AND RAM MEMORY COMPONENT) WEI SUBSCORES!"
(5)  And avoid trying to save a few hundred dollars by buying instead what amounts to little more than an overly-hyped multi-monitor office computer system if you are an active daytrader, with thousands, tens of thousand, hundreds of thousands and millions of dollars "open' and exposed and being managed in real-time throughtout the course of each trading day!

IN SUMMARY...
1. Avoid hyped Dual and Dual Dual Core Processor equipped systems altogether.
2. You will likely want an Intel Xeon Hexa Core (six true physical cores), or better, a 2x Quad Core (four true physical cores in both processors ) CPU Complex in your system (eg., an Intel Xeon *x5300, e5400, x5500 series equipped CPU Complex with two of these quad core processors**), or, at least* an "Intel Extreme" Quad Core processing system (an Intel "Q series' processor with 4 cores and 12MB of cache, with "Extreme" actually in the specific Intel Xeon's Processor's Official Intel Title - - not just some hyping adjective in some independent vendor's hyperbole).
3. Avoid less than DDR3 graphics cards used in a system's GPU Complex. Especially cards with extremely low Dedicated Memory per card (256mb, 128mb, etc.)! A *powerful DDR3-DDR5 GPU Complex with 1.5GB or more of Dedicated Memory at minimum should be sought. (A**nd as earlier mention, not one with thousands of MB of irrelevant 'active' or 'graphics' memory, etc.)*
4. Avoid 3.0gb/sec SSD or HDD system primary drives hosting your MS Windows Operating system. Find a trading computer with an Extra Fast Primary Drive (6gb/sec transfer rates) to start, whether it is an SSD or HDD, and regardless of HDD RPM or Cache (an SSD being better). If the storage drive is also 6gb/sec it can be used immediately as a backup primary drive also housing you MS OS, in case your 'first primary' happens to fail for some reason in the middle of a trading day...
5. Look for these aforementioned metrics in you trading computer in order to have a genuine 'power tradestation,' and to be genuinely competitive within the today's fast-moving financial markets daytrading arena!

And be extremely cautious of the simple used computer vendors that would also flood the Ebay price listings "search fields" with useless, old, and hardly different legacy office systems, in excessive and systematized 3 and 5 day listing rotations, to crowd out a traders discovery of genuine 'trading computer' providers and their more powerful and significantly better performance/cost system offerings!
