Seed Germination and Propagating:
Growing Hippeastrums from seed in soil can probably be called the traditional method used. Fill your growing container with a good quality seed raising mixture. Place seeds on top of the soil. Scatter a small scattering of the growing medium back over the seeds, only enough to lightly cover the seed. It is advisable to establish a humid environment for starting seed. This can be most easily achieved by placing your container into a plastic bag and sealing it. Keep warm but out of any direct sunlight. Keep seed and mixture moist but not wet, this can best be achieved by untying the plastic and to misting regularly. If they are appearing to be dry mist spray them again.
After each seedling leaf length is 4-5 cm you can remove the
seedlings and transplant them to individual pots. Again, a good quality
seed-raising medium is best used. Seedlings must be protected from full sun,
but need light to continue to grow.
