Antique salt
cellars or finger bowls
These unusual silvery twin bowls are believed to be either salt cellars (no spoons) or finger bowls probably from the late 1800s. Well-weighted to remain stable on the table top, they are crafted from so called German silver, also known as nickel silver, which was used extensively in ornamental silverware for centuries. They appear to be cast, and then open-worked into a pleasing half-flower pattern cut-outs around the rim. Unbranded, they are in very good condition with some very slight scratches commensurate with their age. Height: 7/8” Width: 3 3/8” Weight: 6oz. using my postal scale.
Check out my other listings. I have several antique silver and crystal items that I believe were brought over from Europe by our family in the late 1800s.
