TILL HUMAN VOICES WAKE US
Psychoanalyst Dr. Samuel Franks heads back to his rural hometown of Genoa, Victoria, Australia to bury his recently deceased father, Dr. David Franks.
Once back and staying at the now empty family home, Sam reminisces about one fateful summer of his teen-aged life when he was back from boarding school, and spent much of his time with the Lewis family, most specifically with leg brace wearing Silvy Lewis, the two who had a deep emotional connection with each other.
His reminiscences are sparked in part by meeting in Genoa a young amnesiac calling herself Ruby.
Some of the situations Sam finds himself in with Ruby are reminiscent of those he spent with Silvy that summer.
Despite what happened that summer, Sam begins to wonder if Ruby and Silvy are indeed the same person, or...
i had no expectations before watching this movie.
I've heard very little about it but what i have heard was it was just plain bad.
I honestly just watched it because Guy Pearce was in it, but if there is one thing we've learnt from watching Pearce's films is that he takes the complex unordinary films and this is no exception.
Firstly lets start with the plot.
From reading other reviews you already know Pearce is a doctor and his leading lady has amnesia, but the film is so much more then that.
Pearce's character goes back to where he grew up to bury his father and goes on a journey to recover the past that he never dealt with.
It's truly an amazing story about the tragedy one boy experiences in his youth and how it has affected his life thus.
Don't take my word for it and don't listen to all of those who have said the movie was bad or made no sense, watch it for yourself and you will see this is another one of Pearce's masterpieces.
FAST FOOD FAST WOMEN
How important is the truth when falling in love?
Bella is a Manhattan café waitress, about to turn 35, stuck in a long-term affair going nowhere.
Paul is a widower, facing old age alone.
Bella's mother sets her up with Bruno, a novelist/cabbie who likes to bed-hop and whose ex-wife expects their two children to stay with him for awhile.
While Bruno learns some maturity from his young daughter, Paul answers a personals ad placed by a "widow, 60."
The two couples - along with one of Paul's older pals and a Jungian stripper - sort out how to initiate a relationship these days, what to do when someone you like disappoints you, and when to tell the truth.
