Vermiculite is very easy to cut with a handsaw; jigsaw cutter or hacksaw and it can be shaped with a file or rasp.
If there is a chance that the vermiculite bricks could get very wet, we would not recommend their use. However, we do have clay bricks in our eBay store that would be better suited to a wet area.
Vermiculite is a lightweight mix of volcanic rock, cements, metallics and adhesion compounds that are brought together and compressed into a board/brick. (Vermiculite is not a type of clay)
Vermiculite is heat resistant and fire retardant up to 1200 degrees, the fire can be built directly on top of the board/brick.
