"Thunder in the West" is a 160 page, 8.5"x11" hardcover issued by the United States Navy for the sailors of the USS Galveston to commemorate their 1965 Pacific cruise. The ship visited the Philippines before arriving off the coast of Vietnam in August, where it pounded Viet Cong positions with 6-inch shells for most of the month. Then it was off to Hong Kong for a brief rest, followed by a further round of fighting in September, a visit to Japan, then back to San Diego. There are many black-and-white photos throughout documenting the voyage, and individual, identified photos of all officers and crewmen.

The book is in good condition, with fading, scuffing and edge wear to the cover, the previous owner's name embossed at front bottom, unmarked interior, firm binding.
