The 116 mile railroad was initially planned to link Windsor and Burlington Vermont and was built between 1845 and 1849. It became a part of the Consolidated Railway in 1884 when it merged with the Vermont and Canada Railroad. However, as a result of litigation a new company was formed called the Central Vermont Railroad.
