The Memoires de la Vie du Comte de Grammont were “dictated” to Antoine Hamilton, brother-in-law to the Comte, by the Comte when he was 80. It included many stories from his military and diplomatic career as embellished by Hamilton. Publication of this work made the reputation of Hamilton who favored the times that de Grammont was in Restoration London over the exiled Court of the Stuarts. The work was first published anonymously in 1713 seemingly at Cologne but actually published and printed in the Netherlands. This volume is in good condition, with some problems with the spine (see photos), scuffing and edgewear. Toning and foxing inside. Striking red and black title page with vignette of Phoenix rising.
