Some people got a wrong knowledge about pure nickel strip and nickel plated steel strip. The different between nickel strip and nickel plated steel strip is as below.
1. Density
The pure nickel density is 8.9g/cm3
The steel density is 7.85g/cm3
So, in the same size, the nickel strip is heavier than the steel strip.
2. Magnetic
From the knowledge of chemistry, steel and nickel are similar elements, both can be sticked by magnet.
The relative permeability of pure nickel is about 600
The relative permeability of steel is 2000~6000
So, pure nickel is also can be sticked by magnet, but the magnetic force is weaker than the steel.
3. For battery welding
Pure nickel strip is used for battery assembly. It has good strength and good conductivity
The steel strip is easy to rust. In order to reduce costs, some p eople use nickel plated steel strip instead of pure nickel strip.

In order to connect well
the nickel strip to battery cell when DIY, we would like to give the following
suggestions for reference. If you have any questions, please feel free to
contact us for discussion and resolution.
1. Before
purchasing, it is important to understand the specifications and dimensions of
the nickel strip, especially its width and thickness. Then, select the suitable
nickel strip for your purpose.
2. After receiving
the nickel strip, you can use a caliper to measure the width and thickness. Our
nickel strip is pure made from professional factory. If you have any doubts of
quality, we can provide you the QC report of nickel strip.
3. Before welding,
use a cotton cloth dipped in alcohol or acetone to wipe the surface of the
nickel strip to remove any oil stains. Also, better clean the surface of
battery positive and negative terminal.
4. Adjust the
welding machine to determine the welding parameters. Different thicknesses
require different welding parameters, adjust the voltage, current, power, and
time according to the equipment manual. There are many types of welders such as
Laser, Ultrasonic，Pulse, Resistance, etc. You should
make some experiments to determine the best parameter for welding. Cut off the
nickel strip sample to determine the parameters.
5. Start and finish
welding according to the optimum parameters. Welding effect inspection, if it
is easy to pull off, it indicates that the parameters are not optimal. If the
welding marks are deep, discoloration is severe, and the parameters are too
large, there is a risk of battery leakage.
