The Nathan AirChime K3 has long been the leader in commercial railway horns. This horn is the most commonly used horn on diesel locomotives across the US and is the same horn everyone's familiar with when a diesel locomotive barrells down the tracks.
This K3LA is an American tuned version of the K3 with a low-profile mount to make it easier to install on trucks (not intentionally). This horn is one of the most popular on railways all over the USA and has been since 1977. The K3LA is an amazing horn and delivers unbelievable power. Honestly, its very hard to describe just how loud these horns are. If you want a real horn, this is the answer.

Developed in the 1950s this K-series horn is a blast from the past. In fact although there are many variations of the K3, the basic design has stayed the same since 1954. This horn is just about indestructible; die cast out of solid aluminum and powered by heavy duty stainless steel internals. This horn can take a beating!
Still not confident about these horns? They were designed to be mounted on diesel locomotives and be exposed to the elements, snow, ice, rain, wind, and diesel smoke and still sound great! In fact these horns were designed to be clearly audible from up to 5 miles (calm wind, clear skies). The horns are virtually maintainance free and are designed to be rebuilt with absolutely no tuning necessary.
Revolutionary Train Horn Design
The K-series horns boast an impressive design. These kettle-drum horns were designed to sound louder than their predecessors. Although, they are not quite as deep as older horns, these horns are 11 dB louder at 100ft than the P-3 was and play a much more alerting tone. To put it simply, these horns are designed to catch peoples attention.
This horn features an innovative technology unheard of in other horns. The diaphragm housing of the horn actually contains two discs. This may be Greek to some, but what it means is the horns don't taper in tone like normal horns. Regular horns sound a lot more high pitched at high pressure than they do at lower pressures. With a K-series horn you're all full-on or full-off.
