Another use for the hole would be a space for a dipping/tapas dish that would accompany a variety of foods.
It is recommended that you do not clean this product in the dishwasher as this will ruin the product (same with all types of wood). Cleaning instructions would be the following:
1. Wash with Soap and a damp cloth
2. Pass Lemon or Vinegar to kill bacteria
3. Dry with a cloth and do not place in direct sunlight
