PATTI BOCK - INSCRIBED CHRISTMAS / HOLIDAY CARD SIGNED - HFSID 272754
[JERRY BOCK] PATTI BOCK. Christmas Card inscribed and signed: "Dear Phyllis, Bill and Family/The Bocks/Patti, Jerry, George & Portia". Color, 9x8 when opened. Front depicts four trees. Inside imprinted message: "Merry Christmas * Happy New Year". In 1950, the former Patti Faggen married Jerry Bock, whom she had met at the University of Wisconsin, where her husband decided to become a composer. The couple had two children, a son, George, and a daughter, Portia, whom Jerry would refer to (along with his wife) as "his longest running hit". Composer, lyricist and choreographer Jerry Bock, born Jerrold Lewis Bock in 1928, is best known as the Tony Award-winning composer of the Broadway hit, Fiddler on the Roof. Bock won two Tony Awards for the production, which he co-wrote with his longtime collaborator, Sheldon Harnick (Bock and Harnick had an astounding five Broadway shows over a period of seven years). Bock, who had previously written songs (with lyricist Larry Holofcener) for the TV series, Your Show of Shows, which starred Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca, wrote the music for his first Broadway show, Catch a Star, in 1955. The following year, his music was again featured on the Great White Way in Mr. Wonderful, which ran from 1956-1957. He has won four Tony Awards (two for Fiddler and two for Fiorello, 1960), and Bock has been nominated for four additional Tony Awards: for She Loves Me (1964); two Tonys for The Apple Tree (1967; which returned to Broadway in 2006); and, a Tony Award for Best Score for The Rothschilds (1971). His songs, which include "If I Were a Rich Man", "Sunrise...Sunset" and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker" from Fiddler on the Roof, have also been featured on such TV specials as Carol Channing and Pearl Bailey: On Broadway (1969), Baryshnikov on Broadway (1980) and My Favorite Broadway: The Love Songs (2001). Bock, who also wrote the scores for the film version of Fiddler on the Roof (1971) and A Stranger Among Us (1992), was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972. Lightly creased, slightly soiled. Mounting remnants on verso (no show through). Overall, fine condition.
