Chod Hook
The ultimate chod rig and stiff link hook.
It has to be said, the Chod Hook was not the easiest project that we’ve ever embarked on. To design the perfect hook for Chod and Stiff Link style rigs requires an in-depth understanding of exactly how these rigs work and an awful lot of field testing, fine tuning, retesting…
Fortunately the Gardner Team includes several anglers that know exactly how the rig mechanics work and how to get the most of these styles of hook bait presentation; being the original innovators of the key hook section on the Hinged Stiff Link, that later came to be known as the Chod rig (as it is popularly called today). With their input we have been able to design the perfect Chod Hook.
Unquestionably the quality of the hook point is pivotal in maximising the effectiveness of any modern specialist rig, so naturally the Chod Hook had to have a phenomenally sharp one. The finished hook has a long straight point that is precisely etched onto an extra strong forged and tempered high carbon steel wire.
Another key specification was strength. Chod Hooks need to be strong to cope with big hard fighting carp…and that’s exactly what they are!
The pattern features a wide gape, non reversed bend and medium length shank, with a well formed 15 degree out-turned eye that ensures that materials like Trip Wire and fluorocarbons exit the inside of the eye at the optimum angle, encouraging the hook to turn aggressively with a whipping style Knotless, Snell and Dumhoff knots.
The out-turned eye also effectively reduces unnecessary kinking on monofilament-type hooklinks that may reduce their performance.
The medium length shank is angled slightly in, towards the hook point, which is a critical attribute in providing the strongest possible hook holds, giving you total confidence when you are playing the carp of a lifetime.

Mugga Hook
Practically a legend for the last decade…
The Mugga offers unrivalled hooking potential when used with a variety of hooklink materials. This pattern has a proven track record for nailing wary feeding fish and then staying in them all the way to the angler’s waiting net.
The combination of an in-turned eye, non-reversed bend, sweeping shank, strong forged wire and super sharp point has established the Mugga as a devastatingly reliable hook.
The Size 12 has now become a firm favourite for use in Zig Rig fishing as an effective means of reducing the number of hook pulls commonly associated with this method.
Used and recommended by top anglers everywhere.

Continental Mugga Hook
Continental Mugga hooks feature an extra strong wire, combining the original Mugga’s amazing hooking power with the strength required for extreme fishing situations.
After the phenomenal success of the Mugga hook we have introduced a ‘Continental ‘version that is made from significantly stronger, heavier gauged forged, high carbon steel. Although the hooks are 30% stronger the wire used does not make them heavy or bulky.
This extra strong wire means that the Continental Mugga hook combines the original Mugga hooks amazing hooking power with the brute strength required for extreme fishing situations such as fishing for big fish in heavy weed or near snags. If you look at the design of the Mugga range it’s not hard to see why the pattern offers unrivalled hooking potential when used with a variety of hooklink materials. The aggressive hooking action and strong hook holds that the pattern gives are due to a combination of key features working perfectly together.
Firstly, the combination of a sweeping, slightly curve shank and a 25o in-turned eye cause the hook to flip as soon as the hooklink tightens or the hook eye reaches the edge of fish’s lip. This unique action means that the hook will take hold firmly in the corner of the mouth or in the bottom lip without having to add shrink tube to improve a less effective ‘similar’ pattern…
After this the specific orientation between the hook eye and the razor sharp straight point creates the best possible angle to aid the hook penetrating quickly and securely. Simply put, this means you will land more fish and suffer from fewer hook pulls.
The larger hooks in the range have proven particularly effective and popular with anglers that want to create 360o rigs and have already accounted for a number of monstrous fish from both home and abroad.
The application of the unique Covert finish reduces glare and mimics predominant colours in the environment, offering ultimate camouflage.
The Continental Mugga has already proven itself as an utterly reliable hook since its release in early 2012. If you’re looking for a hook that combines a proven pattern with superb strength, which can be used with a wide range of rigs maybe you should take at look at them…

Longshank Mugga
Long, curved shank hooks are tailor made for incorporating into rigs that give a high level of anti-ejection and ultimately create strong hook holds.
With their extended curved shank these hooks mechanically twist and turn extremely aggressively when inhaled or mouthed by a feeding carp. This aggressive action forces the hook point to take hold in the bottom lip where it inevitably takes the strongest possible hook hold.
Hookbaits can be mounted in a variety of ways with these hooks, either on a conventional hair trapped in position with a small section of 0.5mm silicon tubing (set opposite the hook point or barb is best), or mounted onto a sliding rig ring or small rig swivel that can be held in place with a Covert Hook Stop to enhance the rigs anti-eject properties (highly recommended for use with pop ups).
These Longshank Mugga hooks are ideal for use on 360 rigs.
Available in Sizes 4, 6, 8 and 10 in Barbed or Barbless.

Incizor
A superbly versatile shape, the Incizor has proven extremely reliable for use in a huge number of angling situations, whether used in the smaller sizes for Zig Rigs or in the other sizes for more conventional rigs for specimen carp, tench, bream, barbel or chub. The numbers of huge fish of all species captured on these brilliant hooks is staggering.
The pattern lends itself to a huge choice of rig options – the straight eye means that you can use them with stiff ‘Trip Wire’ style hooklink materials on Chod rigs and other similar D-rig presentations. You can confidently use them with Fluorocarbon hooklinks, or with the addition of a small shrink tube kicker combine them with braided and skinned hooklinks.
In fact these are the No1 hook pattern choice for the team here at Gardner when we use the excellent Covert Hook Aligners as the finished rigs turn aggressively, with the hooklink exiting the Hook Aligner at the optimum angle and the perfect distance from the hook point.
With the introduction of the BIG size 1 and size 2 Incizors customers fishing venues like Rainbow have indicated that these awesome hooks cope well with the most extreme carp angling on the planet! If you’re fishing for the biggest carp and you need a hook that is as strong as they come then this is the one for you…
The point on an Incizor is durable thanks to double tempering the highest quality Carbon Steel and the non-reversed bend and general dimensions of the Incizor mean this pattern will remain the hook of choice for a great many discerning anglers around the world.

Longshank Incizor
The chemically etched point on these hooks are famous for being phenomenally sharp and have always been regarded by many anglers as offering a genuine edge as the hook nails the fish at the slightest opportunity.
Quite simply, they have always been a longshank hook in a class of their own.
In terms of raw strength, the forged high carbon wire offers remarkable tenacity for the gauge of wire used, and the longshank and straight eye makes this hook particularly effective for a variety of highly effective pop up and bottom bait presentations.
Add to this the double tempered point that stays sharper for longer and you realise why this hook is so deadly.
They may have recently been copied but the original will never be bettered!

Talon Tip
Talon Tip hooks have a long-standing pedigree and reputation that few other hook patterns can come near too matching. Since their introduction in 1996 this awesome hook has been pivotal in the capture of countless monstrous carp both here in the UK and across Europe.
They are incredibly strong in all sizes, being manufactured from the highest grade forged high carbon steel. They feature a razor sharp chemically etched beaked point and an inturned eye that work together to give the best possible hook holds, as they penetrate quickly until the hook is totally embedded securely down to the bend.
The beaked point also helps keep the hooks in if you are fishing at a venue that doesn’t allow the use of barbed hooks as it helps retain a strong hook hold all the time that the hook is held in under tension.
So, whether you plan to use them for huge carp or hard fighting river fish like barbel, this pattern offers unmatched reliability, excellent hooking potential and firm hook holds.

Wide Gape Talon Tip
The original Talon Tip set the standard for beaked point style hooks when it was released in 1996. In recent years there has been a marked swing away from the offset shank that the original hook featured, so here at Gardner HQ we carefully scrutinised the features that made the original hook so brilliant with a view to instilling these positive design features in an updated version.
By removing the offset and incorporating a slightly wider gape, whilst critically retaining the 5o in-turned eye and wicked beaked point we have come up with a hook pattern that has even greater initial hooking and maintains the extraordinary penetration and hook holds of the original pattern. The way in which the hook penetrates as it is pulled in by the directional force created by the hook eye is simply perfect.
When we removed the offset of the original pattern we also improved the hook’s ability to ‘prick’ the instant the hook bait is taken, and it is such a versatile pattern it works with a massive range of rigs.
The main advantage of a beaked point is that when the point first takes hold and starts grips it helps keep the hook in position effectively even if the fish is trying to shake the rig free (useful if you’re angling on a barbless rules venue) and just pulls in more and grips tighter. Another benefit is that the point is less likely to be turned over or damaged when you fishing over gravel or other rough types of lake bed – typically big stones.
Wide Gape Talon Tips are manufactured from the same ‘bomb proof’ ultra-strong forged wire of the original so you can be absolutely certain that the strength is unparalleled across the size ranges, ensuring this hook can used confidently in the most extreme fishing situations – fishing for the biggest fish in weed or near snags.

Point Doctor
The Gardner Point Doctor is a very simple to use sharpening tool that is perfect for keeping your hook points sticky sharp – ready for action!
During the development stage of this product all the consultants we showed the Point Doctor to agreed that one of its biggest advantages was that it was ‘idiot proof’. This is because of the unique abrasive rubber compound is forgiving – which means that it’s easy to control, avoid applying too much pressure to the point, turning it over and ruining the hook.
Each stroke of the Point Doctor gently removes a fine layer of the hooks plated or coated finish from the surface of the hook, helping to improve and enhancing the hook point. Not only will a sharper hook turn more pickups into fish on the bank, but sharper points also ensures the hook will penetrate further, easier. This will naturally mean you land more fish!
The ‘Point Dr’ is not suitable for totally reworking hook points – but are perfect for improving points that are ‘nearly’ sticky sharp.
Tip – If one of the faces of your Point Doctor becomes grooved or clogged it’s simply a case of carefully slicing off a couple of milimetres of that surface and that fresh abrasive surface will be as good as new!
