This auction is for a sweet demitasse or chocolate cup and saucer from the Lancaster & Sandland Ltd. pottery company of Staffordshire England (formerly Lancaster & Sons.) This cup and saucer features an elderly, content couple.  The couple’s names are Darby and Joan which is a proverbial phrase for a married couple content to share a quiet life of mutual devotion.  The cups are 2 1/8” high and 2” in diameter.  The saucer is 4 ½”in diameter.  Each is marked "English Ware Lancaster Sandland ltd Hanley England”. They are in very good condition with no nicks, chips, cracks or stains.  Both pieces are heavily crazed as is expected of Sandland ware of this type and age.  Thanks for looking.
