This listing is for a vintage pocket knife: Vintage Okapi External-Spring Traditional Slipjoint Folding Pocket Knife.
A brilliant display of classic tool engineering, this traditional pocket knife utilizes a completely external leaf-spring assembly along the spine to manage heavy pocket snap tension, wrapping its legacy slipjoint architecture in a beautifully contoured timber frame.
The knife was made in Germany / South Africa by Okapi. The handle appears to be made from cherry wood / resin-treated veneer and the blade and metal parts from high-carbon steel. The knife's main blade is approx. 7.8 cm (overall closed length is approx. 10.5 cm). The knife appears to be from approx. 1960s–1980s.
The condition of the knife is in fair to good vintage condition. There is signs of age and use. The knife may need sharpening, cleaning and oiling. The natural timber handle displays a lovely aged warmth with standard historic handling wear. The high-carbon blade face shows common carbon patina spot tracking but retains a solid, straight edge, and the external spine spring functions perfectly with crisp positional tension.
These knifes could be used but are more intended for collectors. I've done me best to identify and describe the details of the knife. The photos are the best description, as this is the item you will receive.
