A late 19th-century French brass ceiling pendant light fitting, modelled as a neoclassical putto — the cherub angel figure a enduring motif of the Belle Époque interior. One arm is raised holding a flambeau-style lamp socket with acanthus decoration, the body draped in classical robes and caught in dynamic, swirling movement. Suspended from a cast brass ceiling plate. The fixture retains its original drop Crystal shade that is one link missing.
The fitting was in working order when last used but as with all vintage electrical items, should be inspected and tested by a qualified electrician before use.
Figural brass pendant fittings of this type were produced by French foundries during the Belle Époque, when neoclassical and Empire Revival decorative motifs dominated bourgeois interior design. Putti and cherub angel figures holding torches or lamps were drawn directly from 18th-century precedent, and examples like this were destined for the dining rooms and salons of prosperous Third Republic households.
Putto figure approximately 22cm. Retains original bulb socket. Good condition with attractive aged patination throughout. A rare and decorative piece with strong appeal for interior designers, period property owners, and boutique hospitality settings.
