The EarthQuaker Devices Aurelius Tri-Voice Chorus is a highly versatile digital modulation pedal combining three distinct chorus voices, six programmable presets and assignable expression control in a compact, pedalboard-friendly format.
Inspired by the character of the classic 1970s CE-1 Chorus Ensemble , Aurelius goes well beyond a conventional chorus pedal with dedicated Vibrato, Chorus and Rotary modes, each responding differently to the Width, Rate and Balance controls.
From subtle shimmering modulation and rich vintage-style chorus to flanging, pitch vibrato and Leslie-inspired rotary sounds, Aurelius gives you a huge range of modulation without complicated menus.
The three-way Mode switch provides three very different modulation styles.
Mode V delivers a traditional chorus-style effect that leans towards vibrato, using a triangle-wave LFO to modulate a short delay line.
The Balance control determines how much pitch modulation is mixed with the dry signal.
Turn Balance fully clockwise and the dry signal is removed completely, transforming Aurelius into a true pitch-vibrato effect .
Ideal for:
Traditional chorus
Subtle shimmer
Pitch vibrato
Warped modulation
Lo-fi movement
Seasick textures
Mode C combines elements of chorus and flanger , with a warmer character and slower available rates than Mode V.
A sine-wave LFO modulates the delay line, while the Width control changes the character of the modulation.
As Width is increased beyond its centre position, feedback is gradually introduced, bringing increasingly noticeable flanging into the sound.
This mode can move from warm vintage-style chorus to much more pronounced sweeping modulation.
Mode R is inspired by the sound of a rotating Leslie-style speaker cabinet .
It combines amplitude and frequency modulation to create a Doppler-style rotary effect.
The Width control changes the emphasis between the lower woofer-style frequencies and brighter horn-style frequencies, while Balance determines the intensity of the modulation.
Use it for:
Rotary speaker textures
Psychedelic modulation
Organ-inspired guitar sounds
Pulsing chorus
Vintage-style movement
Aurelius provides six onboard preset locations , allowing you to save and recall your favourite modulation sounds.
Each preset can remember:
Width
Rate
Balance
Selected Mode
Expression pedal assignment
This makes Aurelius particularly useful for live players who need several different modulation sounds available without adjusting controls between songs.
Aurelius provides two operating modes.
Live Mode
The effect follows the current physical positions of the controls, behaving like a traditional stompbox.
Preset Mode
The pedal recalls saved settings and ignores the physical knob positions until you return to Live Mode or edit the preset.
This gives you the choice between hands-on control and instant recall.
Connect a compatible TRS expression pedal and assign it to control:
Width
Rate
Balance
Different expression assignments can be stored with individual presets.
This opens up real-time performance control for:
Chorus depth sweeps
Speed changes
Wet/dry transitions
Vibrato manipulation
Rotary-style acceleration effects
The expression input can also accept 0-3.3V control voltage , making Aurelius useful with compatible CV-equipped setups.
Despite the amount of modulation available, Aurelius remains straightforward to operate.
Width
Controls the depth and range of the modulation. Its exact behaviour changes depending on the selected mode.
Rate
Controls modulation speed.
Balance
Controls the relationship between the dry and modulated signals, with mode-specific behaviour.
Aurelius uses EarthQuaker Devices' Flexi-Switch relay-based true-bypass switching.
This allows both:
Latching Operation
Tap once to activate the effect and tap again to bypass it.
Momentary Operation
Hold the footswitch to activate the effect temporarily, then release it to return to bypass.
Momentary operation is ideal for introducing short bursts of chorus, vibrato or rotary modulation without leaving the effect permanently engaged.

The EarthQuaker Devices Aurelius manages to cover a huge amount of modulation territory while remaining remarkably straightforward to use.
Mode V handles classic chorus and pitch vibrato, Mode C moves from warm chorus into pronounced flanging, and Mode R adds Leslie-inspired rotary textures.
The addition of six presets and assignable expression control is particularly useful for live players, allowing radically different modulation sounds to be recalled without having to recreate settings manually.
For anyone who wants chorus, vibrato, flanger-style modulation and rotary textures in one compact pedal , Aurelius offers a seriously versatile solution without relying on menus or complicated programming.
