(These are three original WWII letters and not copies)

Three incredible WWII letters. Two are written by two Brothers who were both Airmen and one letter written to one Brothers from their brilliant Mother. 

One Brother was in the E.T.O. theater, the other one was in the CBI/Pacific Theater. One of the Brothers was a Gunner on B-17s with the famous 601st Squadron, 398th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force E.T.O. and the other Brother was a pilot that flew B-24s in the CBI/Pacific Theater. 

Both Larry and his Brother Alan were engineering graduates of Ohio State University and their Mother was an educator. All letters come with their original envelope.  

Everything shown in this listing is from the Estate of Sgt. Alan M. Hansbarger who was one of the Original members of the 601st Squadron, 398th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force ETO.

The second letter was written by Sgt. Alan M. Hansbarger which was written in March 25, 1944. He is writing to his pilot Brother Larry and the content is removable about the dangers of flying. He describes a near death flight experience in the fog where on landing a B-17 flew 10 ft. above B-17 on a landing. It was not known at the time how dangerous it was to become a airman in any capacity. Out of the 35,000 US Army Corps Airmen who gave their lives during WWII 14,000 died on US soil and other parts of the world training for combat. This letter contains very confidential uncensored content.  

The third letter is two page long written by Lt. Larry Hansbarger written Oct 3, 1944. He is writing to the entire family. In this letter he write a lot about his Brother Alan. 

Each letter comes with a photo of the writer, the photo is a recent reprint. 

This three letters and photo grouping is rare because it come with a great amount of documentation surrounding these two Airman Brothers. The photos are not original, reprints. 

About the Brothers:

Sgt. Alan M. Hansbarger was a B-17 gunner and Mechanic and saw combat over the ETO. He flew combat from Normandy to Germany he was in the 398th Bomb Group and experienced some of the roughest air combat of any Bomb Group in WWII. 

Sgt. Hansbarger started training as a pilot but because it would take another years of training to become a pilot he switched to being a gunner in order to enter combat sooner. One of the small photos is a image Alan took of flax out the side of his B-17, it is so think it is hard to tell the planes from the exploding flax. 

Lt. Larry Hansbarger was a B-24 pilot in the Pacific Theater and flew reconnaissance missions over China and I would think over Japan too as well as other parts of the Pacific Theater.
