Callaway Big Bertha Gold Iron Set – 3-SW – Regular Flex Graphite – Right Handed

A fantastic classic set of Callaway Big Bertha Gold irons, comprising 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, Pitching Wedge and Sand Wedge – 9 clubs in total.

Fitted with Callaway Golf RCH 96 Regular Flex graphite shafts.

The Big Bertha name is one of the most recognisable in Callaway’s history. The Big Bertha irons were designed around the same philosophy that made the Big Bertha woods so successful – making golf easier through larger, more confidence-inspiring clubheads and increased forgiveness.

These Big Bertha Gold irons have the classic oversized cavity-back construction associated with Callaway irons of this period. The substantial heads, perimeter weighting and generous hitting area were aimed at golfers looking for easier launch and additional forgiveness, particularly on strikes away from the centre of the face.

The distinctive gold finish and Big Bertha Gold cavity badges also make these immediately recognisable as a classic Callaway set.

Condition

The irons are in used condition with cosmetic wear throughout, as should be expected from a set of this age.

The clubheads show scratches, marks, bag chatter and general wear to the gold finish. Some heads have more noticeable finish loss than others, particularly around the cavities, soles and edges. The Sand Wedge has noticeably heavier cosmetic wear/finish loss in the rear cavity, which has been photographed clearly.

The faces show normal strike and surface wear from use. Importantly, the grooves remain clearly visible across the set. Please refer closely to the detailed face photographs for the exact condition.

The graphite shafts show general cosmetic marks and rubbing from use/storage. There are some more noticeable areas of shaft finish wear, which have also been photographed. I cannot see anything in the photographs suggesting a snapped or repaired shaft.

Most of the clubs retain the matching black patterned grips. These show age and wear but remain fitted. One club has a different red/white/blue replacement grip, so please note that the grips are not completely matching across the set.

The cavity badges remain fitted, although these also show age-related cosmetic wear.

Overall, this is an honest, well-used example of a classic Callaway iron set rather than a mint collector’s set. The big attraction here is the excellent 3-SW configuration, giving the buyer nine irons from the long 3 iron right through to the Sand Wedge, together with the lightweight RCH 96 Regular graphite shafts.

A great set for someone wanting to play a classic generation of Callaway Big Berthas, a golfer looking for an affordable and forgiving full iron set, or a collector/user of older Callaway equipment.

Please study all photographs carefully before purchasing. They form an important part of the description and show the exact clubs, including the cosmetic wear to the heads, faces, shafts and grips.
