An attractive antique hand-coloured engraved map of Coventry, Warwickshire, presented mounted, glazed and framed.

The map is titled “The Ground Plott of Coventre” and depicts the historic city with its streets, gates, churches, buildings, waterways and other notable locations identified in the accompanying key.

The composition is after the historic Coventry plan associated with the celebrated engraver Wenceslaus Hollar, originally published in Sir William Dugdale’s Antiquities of Warwickshire in 1656. This is a later antique impression and is not being offered as an original 1656 first edition.

A label on the reverse states:

“Antiquarian Engraving – This engraving is guaranteed to be genuine and over 100 years old. It is hand coloured.”

Presented in a decorative black and gilt frame with a neutral mount. A particularly appealing piece of Coventry and Warwickshire local history.

CONDITION

Good antique condition overall, with age-related toning, light spotting and occasional marks visible to the engraving and mount. The frame has some minor age-related wear and marks. It remains well presented and ready to display.

The engraving has not been removed from its frame. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
