ARTIST: Mid-20thC Continental School, signed Galla SUBJECT: An expansive landscape through forestry in springtime to mountains beyond MEDIUM: Oil on panel SIGNATURE: lower right DATE: c1950s SIZE: Visible painting 51.5 x 45cm (20.5 x 17.5 inches), Frame 64.5 x 59cm (25.5 x 23 inches), Depth 4cm 1.5 inches) PROVENANCE: British estate sale, private collection, from a large folio of works of art after several years of storage; gallery label for Northamptonshire dealer W Frank Gadsby affixed to verso CONDITION: Very good for its age, a very presentable painting in its frame FRAME: Original frame shows light age-related wear FOR SALE BY AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE.
We present a super quality landscape study in oils, pathways through a forest to mountains beyond, in springtime with a carpet of fresh tree cover. The painting, dating to c1950s, possibly slightly later, is signed lower right, Galla. Unidentified artist, Continental School mid-20thC in our opinion, French or German perhaps? This is a fine impressionist hand, thick application of paint in places offering a well presented subject, with much depth. Presented in very good condition in its original frame, this painting will look fabulous displayed
