Sweetheart Pillow Cover from Newport R.I., 16 inches square plus 2 ½ inch
fringe border, probably rayon with hand stitching on the borders, there are
some stains on the unprinted back panel with a water stain upper right and
darker spots in other places, there is small yellow stain on the front under
the “Submarine”, the stitches have let loose on the upper left back corner,
there is an attic storage smell that needs to be remedied, there is a tiny spot
of something white at the side of the “V” in “Navy”, a nice vintage pillow
cover with a opening across the bottom for inserting the pillow, it has large
letters “U.S. Navy” for the service across the top just below an eagle crest,
there is an “Aircraft Carrier” in the upper left corner, a “Heavy Cruser” in
the upper right corner, across the bottom is a large “Battleship”, and above
border anchors are a “Destroyer” and a “Submarine”, there are also various
military planes printed on the rayon, the center has a poem titled
“Sweetheart”, and below that is “Newport, R.I.” where the service member was
stationed, a souvenir sent home to a loved one, this was found tucked away in
an attic many years later.
