An interesting read from the internet…..
Disparity of Value of Numbered Cards
Been asked once, been asked 1000 times. Why are Bowman rookie numbered cards worth more than other Topps, Panini, Elite, Upper Deck, etc. series of the same year and numbered editions?
It comes down to one simple factor. Bowman has been around literally forever and thus got the reputation of being the ‘best’ rookie card to own, even though the numbered editions are the same.
But is there really a difference in scarcity of these cards..... No, of course Not.
A one of one, or editions of 10, 25, 50 or more which are equal in quantity in the same year are just that, the same. A one of one of Bowman is the SAME as a one of one of ANY other company. It’s the collectors who are putting the premium value on a certain company.
Where does that leave you as a collector? Well, sooner or later, collectors will get smart and realize there is no difference and start evening the pricing for these ‘same’ cards. So, right now, there are probably some excellent bargains out there for some rookies and other editions. But remember, buy what you like and are interested in whether that be by player, team, company, series. Etc.
