Not something you see very often. Early 70s Sansui 800. Fairly rare in the UK.

I bought this from a local HiFi repair store in the UK several years ago fitted with a newer style moulded 3 pin UK Mains plug & cable.

THE REAR PLATE STATES 117 VOLTS- I presume it has therefore either been switched / converted or possibly the case has been rehoused? I can not be sure and know nothing about the history and nothing was mentioned regarding the voltage when I bought it. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS BEFORE BUYING.

I have used it daily for a few years without issue other than needing to occasionally give the pots some deoxit - expected with the 50+ year age.

It has a lovely warm sound and is built like a tank and weighs almost as much! I can not find another in this particular wood case and i'm wondering if it's a one off, custom made case. Could do with a sand & oil to bring it back to it's full glory but very presentable as photographed, just some minor scrapes & slight amp; fading.

The noise floor (HF hiss) is slightly higher than modern amplifiers but was not noticeable to me once music is playing. I never had to have it more than 10% volume while using the aux input, seems incredibly loud & powerful but I haven't had speakers of this era on it either.

Given the age and unknown history as disclosed, it is STRICTLY SOLD AS SEEN and in my opinion is best suited to an experienced enthusiast who understands the reality of buying a thoroughly vintage piece of kit like this. As I said, I don't know the history at all and this is very much before my time and unsure if it's ever been worked on, re-capped etc but it did come from a reputable hifi repair shop which has been in business decades.

While I've immensely enjoyed listening with this, it is just a step too far into the past for me, and I'd rather it be with someone else who is more experienced in this era who can give it the home & future it deserves.
