Grateful Dead " 30 Trips Around The Sun " Set - originally released in 2015 in direct conjunction with the much anticipated " 50-Years ! " Celebration of The Grateful Dead " ( 1965 - 2015 ) ... GD 50 !!! And, to honor this Landmark ! Rock & Roll Achievement - Grateful Dead Productions / Rhino originally released a " 30-Years ! " Box Set - to rightfully ' Commemorate ' " '65 " ! And in unprecedented ( & So-Cool ! ) fashion ... this Monster Box Set included Thirty ( 30 ) Grateful Dead Shows on Thirty ( 30 ) CD Sets ( 80-CD's in total ) - and, each CD Set represents the sequential years of the Band's 30-Year development ... from 1966 to 1995 ! Obviously, this was a " Deadheads Dream ! " type Box Set - for the Beyond-Special occasion ... of 50-Years Upon Our Heads ! Fantastic, to say the least ... Wow !!! And as for this 30 Trips " 1993 " 3-CD Set selection offered here ... it offers some Very-Fine ! later-era " 93 Dead !! " - at " The Knick !!! ". The Fan-Friendly ( & Deadhead Friendly ! ) Knickerbocker Arena ! in Albany, New York ! It's certainly no-secret the Grateful Dead Always ! took playing New York Shows real-seriously - always viewing it as a Grate ! opportunity to ' Furthur ' build-upon the multi-Decade ! reputation they'd already well-cemented ( like ... ' beyond ' well-cemented ). A high-energy area & region as a whole ( The East~Coast ! ) - with ( obviously ) very kean musical ears. Just like Jerry used to even say himself ... something like - you can't ever fake it ... because the Dead Fans are really smart, and they-know ! And, sometimes in the later-era ( & late-era ) the crazy-city 6-Show & 9-Show runs could be a little tough for any musician to deliver at the highest level non-stop. I mean, you know - this could be like 9-Shows in 11-Days !?! And, right-after coming off of ( and also heading to another ! ) massive multi-night run. Just think back to the numerous ( usually Fall Tour ) " Big-Stands ! " at say ... the Philly Spectrum ! > M.S.G. ! > Boston Garden ! = maybe like 20-Total-Shows ?!? Point being ... in the '90's Era - this is just-exactly what made " The Knick ! " extra-special to the New York ( & also surrounding-area ( & Touring ! ) ) Dead Fans ! The Venue was Newer ! ( much ! ) - Upstate ! - Off the beaten path ( of a Real-Big-City ! ) - Indoor & Acoustically-Nice ! - much-more spacious in the Lot ! - with better accomodations ( & camp spots too ! ). And, most importanly ( & realistically, really ) ... Shorter-Runs ! Which, would enable the Band to go in there methodically - to aim strategically & target impromptu sets within shorter 2-Show ! & 3-Show ! stands. And, in the case of this 3/27/93 Night at The Knick ! ... the Band comes in with a Pure ! " Head-Of-Steam !! ". But, most certainly not in an ultra-aggressive ( or, over-risk-taking ) way - and instead, in a highly-effective & well-played way - focused on the details ( & the intricate Jams ! ). In other words, while they were rolling-the-dice ( obviously ) just like they always were during their collective process of possibly finding that " 1st Show Magic ! " ... This ! is a Night that they Sure-Did ! - and with " Remarkable ! " Musical results. This Spring '93 run kicked-off with 3 at Rosemont ( IL ), 1 at Richfield ( OH ), 3 at " The Cop Centre " in The MD ! ( Sorry ... but at this-point It-Totally-Was ! ), 3 at the Omni in Atlanta, 2 at UNC Chapel Hill ( where Healy actually threw-out the SBD Lines ! - right into the Tapers-Section ! - for the Dead Fans !! ... inside " The Dean Dome ! " ) - and then 3 at " The Knick ! " ( just before the Tour-Ending 5-run at the Nassau Coliseum ). So ... kind of surprisingly, this is really ' Late-Tour ' Live-Dead " Magic ! " which we are talking about here - with the Band just opening-up a Can of Whoop-Ass ! at " The Knick ! ". So, now that we've gotten the " Where " well covered - it's now time to focus on the " How " - " Why " - " What " ... and " When ! ". With That-Answer being forth & foremost in the Dead-Year of " 1993 ! ". Truly, the " Sneaker-Year ! " of Tremendous ! Amounts of " Killer-Grateful-Dead !!! ". ' What ? ( feeling great / looking great ) ... all of the Studio & ' Live ' Acoustic ! Chops ( Warfield ! = " Church ! " ) with " Garcia & Grisman " in this Early-'90's Era ( just makes you even-better when going back to The-Electric ! ) ... Bobby = Live Vocal FORCE !!! ... Phil ( ZONE !!! ) ... BK ( the Most-Shows ! in Best-Seat ! right-next-to ... Jerry ! - & " Always " making the most-of-it ) ... Mick - " Has Mastered ! " The-Beast !!! " ( & it's " Beam !! " ) ... & last but most-definitely not-least = Vince ! Just a " Breath of Fresh-Air ! " for Jerry & the Band. Jerry Loved Playing & also Hanging ! with-him - talking old time Hollywood Movies, and such. No more of the '91-ish On/Off Hornsby ' Piano ' thing - as Vince was here to ' Play-The-Keys ! ' & also Stay !! This was such an Incredible ! ' Key-Component ' that just cannot be overlooked. Vince nudged Jerry on the Here Comes Sunshine ! ( & got it ! ) - some of the Beatles ! Covers, and a few of the other Covers we all learned to truly love ( at least to my own knowledge ;-) ). And, let's not ever forget it either ... Steve Cripe Guitars !!! As even though " Top-Hat " didn't make it live on stage - " Bolt ! " Did !! - and Lots ! The Florida Axe-Maker that gave Jerry one ( just because he loved Jerry ) - and Jerry then commissioned him on another ! Living-Proof that Jerry still had some Real-Big-Plans !! He even said something crazy-cool too back then - something like ... it's the Guitar he's always been Looking-For !?! Yeah, right ? ... WOW !!! All-of-this ... and I could keep on going ( Trust Me ! ). But, for me personally ( as far as the Post-Brent Era goes ) ... '93 ! is the Place-For-Me !! & My-Deadhead-Ears !!!
