First edition. An advertising brochure for Liquid Peptonoids, a heath tonic. Purports to be a facsimile (translated into English) of a Martian newspaper carried from Mars to Earth by a returning company salesman. The booklet is unevenly trimmed to simulate scorching which occurred during an electrical storm in space. "Description of Martian life and numerous illustrations of artifacts on the planet, which is ruled by King Flammarion. Not noticeably influenced by Wells' 'The War of the Worlds,' which leads me to tentatively date this delightful advertising booklet a little before 1900." - Locke, A Spectrum of Fantasy Volume II, p. 6.
