Blackadder is known for its clever wordplay and historical satire, often reinterpreting figures like Queen Elizabeth I or King George III for comedic effect.

• "Bells" (Series 2, Episode 1): Blackadder falls in love with his new servant boy, "Bob" (who is actually a girl in disguise). Edmund undergoes severe psychological torment because he thinks he has fallen in love with a man, leading him to consult a wise woman and a portrait painter.

• "Beer" (Series 2, Episode 5): Blackadder must host a strictly puritanical dinner party for his wealthy, ultra-religious Aunt and Uncle to secure an inheritance, while simultaneously hosting a wild, drunken, debauched drinking competition in the very next room.

• "Ink and Incapability" (Series 3, Episode 2): Robbie Coltrane guest stars as Dr. Samuel Johnson. Baldrick accidentally burns the only copy of Johnson's newly completed, definitive Dictionary of the English Language to use as kindling, forcing Blackadder to try to rewrite the entire dictionary overnight.

• "Goodbyeee" (Series 4, Episode 6): Widely considered one of the greatest finales in television history. The comedy abruptly shifts into a deeply moving, tragic masterpiece as the main characters finally go "over the top" into No Man's Land. Items associated with Series 4 always command a premium due to this emotional finale.

• The "Flashing" Flashheart: Rik Mayall's character was designed entirely around pure sexual innuendo and crude humor. In Blackadder Goes Forth, Flashheart arrives in the trenches, grabs his crotch, and tells the troops, "It’s dynamic, it’s dangerous, it’s got total sexual magnetism—if you’ve got it, flaunt it, if you haven’t, look at me!"

• The "Big Cock" Incident: In the Series 2 episode Head, Blackadder is appointed Lord High Executioner. The script relies heavily on dark, highly suggestive humor regarding execution tools, including numerous double entendres about the physical sizes of axes, blocks, and the literal anatomy of prisoners awaiting the chop.

• Severe Religious Satire: The first series features The Archbishop of Canterbury, an episode packed with highly controversial, dark satire regarding the medieval Church selling fake religious relics (like "The Holy Shroud of Launceston") and the systematic murder of Archbishops for land and gold.

• The Giant Turnip: Baldrick's obsession with turnips reaches a peak in Series 3, where he buys a turnip shaped exactly like a "thingy" (male anatomy). This joke runs through the episode as characters admire its highly inappropriate, distinct shape.
