Although not originally manufactured as a matching three-piece suite, the table and chairs complement one another beautifully and create a wonderfully decorative period display.
The miniature table is the most substantial piece, weighing approximately 21 grams and carrying Sheffield marks for 1896 together with the importer / sponsor's mark of Samuel Boyce Landeck.
Its rectangular top is richly worked with an attractive embossed scene surrounded by scrolling ornament, while the miniature piece stands on finely formed turned legs.
One of the two chairs is particularly interesting because it also carries the mark of Samuel Boyce Landeck, together with Sheffield marks for 1895 – just one year earlier than the table.
Landeck was a prominent London-based importer of Continental silver during the closing years of the 19th century, and miniature silver furniture is well documented amongst the pieces imported through his business.
The second chair is separately marked .800 silver and is of Continental manufacture. Although from a different source, its scale and elaborate styling allow it to sit very naturally alongside the other two pieces.
Both chairs feature attractive openwork backs, ornate decoration and cabriole-style legs, giving the complete group considerable character despite the slight differences between the individual pieces.
Miniature silver furniture was popular as cabinet collectables during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, often reproducing elaborate full-sized furniture forms on a remarkably small scale.
A lovely group for collectors of antique silver miniatures, novelty silver, Continental silver and miniature furniture.
In good antique condition overall.
General age-related surface wear, light scratches and minor marks are present throughout, consistent with pieces dating from the late 19th century.
Some light tarnishing and areas of natural age-related patination are also present.
The pieces remain very attractive when displayed together.
