A striking Revolutionary War-period American officer coat button featuring large raised “USA” lettering across the face, surrounded by a distinctive rope-pattern border. The bold patriotic lettering and substantial size give the button a commanding appearance representative of early American military material culture during the formative years of the United States. The face retains strong definition to the raised USA device and decorative border, with dark age patination, surface oxidation, scattered deposits, and wear throughout. The reverse retains its prominent attachment shank and displays a recessed circular construction with additional oxidation and age-related surface variation.
