This latest holder was created for photographers who have asked for a way to scan 35mm film with the original film rebate visible around the image on Plustek OpticFilm scanners.
This custom 3D-printed 35mm Rebate Film Holder allows the scanner to capture the complete photographic image along with a portion of the normally hidden unexposed film border.
The standard Plustek 35mm carrier masks the negative closely around the traditional 24 × 36mm image area. Our Rebate Holder uses a larger opening, removing that unnecessary masking and allowing you to take advantage of the additional imaging area available in the scanner.
The result is a real scanned film border—not a digitally added frame.

The Plustek 8100/8200-series scanners have a maximum scanning area of approximately 36.8 × 25.4mm, compared with the nominal 35mm image size of 36 × 24mm.
This allows the scanner to capture a visible portion of the film rebate surrounding the image.
The exact amount will vary from negative to negative because actual film-gate dimensions differ slightly among cameras.
Please note: This is a rebate holder, not a sprocket-hole holder. The physical imaging area of these scanners is not wide enough to capture the entire 35mm film width or the sprocket holes.

Because the rebate is captured directly from the negative, variations in the film edge remain part of the scan. Nothing is digitally simulated or added afterward.
When using VueScan with automatic color or level adjustments, including the black film rebate inside the primary crop can affect the software's automatic brightness and color calculations.
For best results, set VueScan's primary crop around the photographic image and use Crop → Border to extend the finished scan into the rebate. This allows the genuine film border to appear in the final image without being included in VueScan's color-balance calculations.
