*Up for sale here is a nicely embossed and mid 1880's era antique true tin top milk bottle, from the state of New York. This wonderful example is pristine and mint, with no issues. The old hand-blown clear glass is sparkling clean, with a nice picture of an embossed eagle on the bottle. It is in the quart size, with no cap seat. This example was not dug or tumbled, and has the hand finished tooled top. An "attic find". Please see the pictures, as they tell the best story. Bottle looks better in person, and would date from about 1885 or very shortly after.  

*The historical enterprise founded by Gail Borden Jr. was officially named the New York Condensed Milk Company, starting in 1858. The company prospered during the Civil war, by selling its processed milk to the Union armies, for their soldiers. Borden began selling processed milk to consumers in 1875, and pioneered the use of glass milk bottles in 1885. The company changed its name to "Borden's Condensed Milk Company" in 1899. This example would be one of its earliest milk bottles. 

*It is nicely embossed on the front, as it reads open face ~ "PROPERTY / OF THE / N.Y. CONDENSED / MILK CO." Up on the shoulder there is a nicely detailed picture of a spread eagle embossed. The base is plain. On the opposite side of the bottle, it reads open face ~ "This Bottle / Warranted / To Contain / One Full Quart".  This sparkling clean and early quart milk bottle measures 9 inches tall, and 3 3/4 inches in diameter. You will be very well pleased with this scarce and early piece of nostalgic milk industry history, from the state of New York. Would make a great home dairy farm decor piece as well. Displays quite nicely and thanks for looking.
