Authentic antique brass railroad baggage tag from the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad (NCNGRR). This legendary 3-foot narrow gauge short-line operated through California’s historic Gold Country between 1876 and 1942, connecting Colfax, Grass Valley, and Nevada City. This specific shield-shaped tag is stamped with the low inventory/identification No. 167. It measures 2 x 1 3/4 inches. 

This tag features the clear hallmark of the AM. RY. S. CO. N.Y. (American Railway Supply Company, New York) stamped neatly along the top edge near the strap slot. This specific maker's mark indicates that the piece was manufactured during the peak operations of the narrow gauge line, dating roughly between 1891 and the 1920s. 

The tag features an authentic dark aged patina. It remains completely uncleaned and unpolished. The reverse side shows uniform age-related surface wear, handling marks, and scratching consistent with decades of actual railway service. There is a slight bend at top left but the tag otherwise maintains its correct, original shape. The die-stamped lettering and digits remain deeply struck, crisp, and exceptionally legible.
