Edwardian Period Faux Moonstone Brooch in Sterling Silver 31mm 4.2g
A lovely antique brooch in marked sterling silver with a large 25mm x 9mm cabochon stone mounted in a simple bezel setting, and surrounded by an outer oval of silver. Stamped to the back SILVER and 925.
In good antique condition. Bought recently from an auction as moonstone, but upon examination under a lens, we believe it is actually faux moonstone. Moonstone is particularly difficult to simulate convincingly, but this example shows it can be done. It is only really by the wear to the surface of the stone that we can tell it isn't moonstone. The colour is excellent, with a lovely milky blue flash, and is extremely convincing. The simple, classic lines make this a very wearable piece.
