Offered for sale is an original WW2 era officers collarless shirt in very good used condition, made by Van Heusen with an Austin Reed collar.
The main body of the shirt has been made from a fine light-green coloured material (closed with pearl finished plastic or composite buttons to the front/cuffs) with a half-button styled front and a matching detachable collar. A makers label sewn under the collar in the main shirt reads "VAN HEUSEN SHIRT" over "SERVICE BRAND" over "FOR USE WITH VAN HEUSEN COLLARS", and "MADE BY HARDING, TILTON & HARTLEY LTD" of "LONDON, ENGLAND". There is also a printed collar size "15 1/2", plus several smaller laundering tags including the number "10" embroidered in red and "033" hand written. Several stamped numbers have also been applied to the wearers lower left front skirt. The collar is a similar material in a slight colour mismatch, with the makers mark "AUSTIN REED OF REGENT STREET", the printed size "15 1/2", plus "20X 9". Van Heusen and Austin Reed are both distinguished brands in British history.
The condition of the shirt and collar is very good for its age, and would have rated excellent but for some light fraying to the left cuff that appears to have been created during manufacture. Despite this it still displays very well and would be suited to dressing a manikin for a WW1 or WW2 uniform display or actual wear.
Please note that while I have measured this as an approximate 43/44 inch chest, with an approximate 24 inch sleeve, with a 15 1/2 inch neck and 15 1/2 inch collar this is being sold as an antique/historical item and lack of fit would not be considered as a reason for its return should there be an issue.
Would make an excellent gift to any collector of uniform items relating to the British military in the early 20th century or a WW1/WW2 reenactor.
