Juanita Guccione was an American painter whose work combined Surrealism, Symbolism, and personal mythology. Working largely outside the mainstream art world, she developed a distinctive visual language populated by enigmatic figures, dreamlike architecture, and symbolic imagery inspired by mythology, psychology, and spiritual traditions.

Painted between 1948 and 1951, Fortune Teller depicts a seated female figure holding playing cards before an arrangement of oversized cards and theatrical masks. The symbolic imagery reflects Guccione's sustained interest in mystery, ritual, and psychological narrative.
