ATELIER Z is a popular Japanese brand based in Nakano City, Tokyo, that has been active since 1989.
Highly acclaimed by many top bassists, the brand is known for its clear, punchy sound—combining 70s-style ash-and-maple construction with active circuitry.
This is a 5-string model from the "Beta" series, which rivals the famous "#M" (MAGNITUDE) in popularity.
Featuring a "dinky" body shape for superior playability and a 24-fret configuration, the model underwent a 2025 update that evolved it to offer both a more modern sound and practical, stage-ready playability.
This specific unit features a natural finish that highlights the beautiful grain of the ash wood.
Its simple aesthetic allows the natural texture of the material to shine, creating a high-quality look that never goes out of style.
It is equipped with the newly developed **"JZ-5"** pickups.
The split-coil structure ensures excellent noise rejection while delivering the clarity and responsiveness typical of single-coil pickups.
It produces a clear, well-defined sound—even on the low B-string—with a balanced, wide frequency range from low to high.
It performs exceptionally well across all playing styles, including fingerstyle, slapping, and picking.
The bass also features the newly developed **"AZ-3B"** preamp.
It supports boost/cut control for each frequency band, allowing for precise sound shaping tailored to specific venues or musical arrangements.
Additionally, it supports switching to passive mode, covering a wide sonic palette ranging from natural, vintage-style tones to the punchy active sound characteristic of ATELIER Z.
Despite being a 5-string model, it offers excellent neck comfort and balance, along with high playability that allows for stress-free performance all the way up to the highest frets.
The included finger ramp can be easily attached using double-sided tape.
