This is a vintage Japanese wooden carved salmon, estimated to be from the early Showa period. According to its history, it was originally hung under the eaves of an Izakaya (traditional Japanese pub) as a sign to announce and celebrate a large catch of fish for the day.

The front side is hand-carved to depict the fish's scales, fins, and open mouth, finished in a dark brown tone. The reverse side is flat and uncarved, indicating it was designed to be displayed against a wall or storefront. A rope is tied near the tail section for hanging purposes.
