An uncommon Victorian educational and genealogical chart showing the dynasties of the English sovereigns and tracing the direct descent of Queen Victoria from Egbert, traditionally regarded as the first king of a united England.

The item takes the form of a large folding chart contained within its original marbled paper-covered boards.

Unfolded chart measurements: approximately 43 × 68.5 cm — 16.9 × 27 inches.

When fully opened, the chart presents an extensive visual summary of English royal and national history.

The central section contains a detailed family tree tracing the descent of the monarchy from the Saxon period through the Norman, Plantagenet, Tudor, Stuart and Hanoverian dynasties to Queen Victoria and her children.

A prominent red line follows the principal royal descent through the chart.

The coloured side columns provide:

* the names and reigns of the English sovereigns;
* the length and chronology of each dynasty;
* major battles and rebellions;
* legislation and constitutional developments;
* inventions and discoveries;
* religious, military and political events;
* explanatory notes concerning the succession and royal relationships.

The cover identifies the publication as the Sixth Edition, Revised and Extended. The accompanying printed material is dated October 1886.

This is an especially attractive example of Victorian educational publishing, designed to present royal genealogy and English history in a single large visual chart.

Condition

Fair antique condition with age and use-related wear.

The original marbled paper-covered boards have scuffing, edge wear, staining and losses around the corners and spine. The large printed cover label is aged but remains substantially readable.
There are localised small tears, separations or weakened areas associated with the folding structure.

Despite this wear, the genealogy, coloured chronological columns, event lists and explanatory text remain remarkably detailed and generally legible. The red line tracing the principal royal descent remains clearly visible.

A previous owner’s stamp appears inside.

Due to its age and complex folding construction, the chart should be opened and refolded carefully.

Please examine all photographs closely, particularly the fully unfolded chart, original folds, boards, spine and internal ownership marking. The photographs form an important part of the condition description.

An unusual original item for collectors of Victorian education, British royal genealogy, English history, historical charts, antique maps, royal memorabilia and nineteenth-century ephemera.
